The Chicago area has one of the highest gross domestic products (GDP) in the world, census data show the Chicago city lost population for the fourth consecutive year from 2015 to 2019. Chicago was first explored in 1673 by the French explorers and in 1833 and Chicago was incorporated as a town and city in 1837. The median household income is $55,198, employment rate is 60.7% and poverty rate is 19.5%.

The suburbs surrounded by Aurora, Elgin, Joliet, and Naperville are noteworthy for being four of the few boomburbs outside the Sun Belt, West Coast and Mountain States regions, and exurban Kendall County.

Civilian Veterans are 71,067, Veterans by Sex in Chicago city are 92.1% are Male and 7.9% are Female. The population of below 5 years is 1,75,962, 18 years and above are 21,41,930, 65 years and over are 3,26,982. 71,067 are Veterans.

The distinct urban areas of Aurora, Joliet, Elgin and Waukegan were absorbed into the Chicago UA. According to the United Nations Urban Agglomeration Prospects report, Chicago UA population in 2020 is 8,861,640 (8.86 Million) with covering an area of 10,856 square miles (28,120 sq km) that includes 14 counties in the U.S. states of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

The racial makeup was 52.8% Non-Latino White, 22.1% were Latino, 16.7% were Non-Latino African Americans. 6.4% were Asian population, out of these 1.6% are Chinese, 1.1% are Indians, 1.1% Filipino, 0.4% Korean, 0.3% Pakistani, 0.3% Vietnamese, 0.2% Japanese, 0.1% Thai, Other ethnic groups such as Native Americans and Pacific Islanders are 2.0% of the population. Chicago has a Hispanic or Latino population of 28.9%, out of these 21.4% Mexican, 3.8% Puerto Rican, 0.7% Guatemalan, 0.6% Ecuadorian, 0.3% Cuban, 0.3% Colombian, 0.2% Honduran, 0.2% Salvadoran, 0.2% Peruvian.
