Goa Population

Goa is a state in western India, bounded by Arabian sea in the west, Maharastra in the north, Karnataka to the south and west. Goa population in 2020 is estimated to be 1.58 Million (15.8 Lakhs), According to Unique Identification Aadhar India, data updated on 31, May 2020, by mid of year 2020 the projected population is 1,586,250, It is India's smallest state by area and the fourth smallest by population. Goa is a former Portuguese province, the Portuguese overseas territory existed for about 450 years until it was annexed by India in 1961. It has an area of 3,702 sq km and state capital is Panaji, and largest city is Vasco da Gama, second largest is Margao. As per Niti Aayog 2013 report, Total Fertility Rate is 1.4.

Below is the recorded census of Goa since 1900, The population in 1900 was 475,513. From 1960 to 1970 the census recorded the spike of 35% due to huge migration from Karnataka and Maharasthra, and decreasing around 10% every decade from 1970 to 2011. Last census recorded the decrease of 7%, from 2001 to 2011(15.21 to 8.23%). The total fertility rate is 1.4 as recorded in 2013.

Goa religion wise population, The major religion in Goa is Hindu, around 1 million people follow Hinduism, followed by Christianism with 25%(366,130), followed by Islam with 8.3%(121,564). Sikh, Jain and Buddhism represent less than 1% in the Goan State.

Languages spoken in Goa

Konkani is the main language of Goa, widely spoken by 66% of the state population, but almost all Goan's speak and understand Konkani, followed by Marathi, Hindi with 10% each. Portuguese was the sole official language during Portuguese colonial rule.

Income Distribution

Goa is a tourist state and has the highest GDP per capita among all Indian states, visited by large numbers of foreigners and domestic tourists every year for its white sand beaches, nightlife and for Portuguese churches. Baga, Calangute, Palolem, Anjuna and Candolim are the popular beaches of Goa.
