The Dominican Republic is a country located on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea. The island of Hispaniola shares with Haiti over sixty-three percent. Its capital and largest city is Santo Domingo, and other popular cities are Santiago, La Vega, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, San Francisco de Macorís, La Romana, Higüey, Puerto Plata and Moca. After more than three hundred years of Spanish rule, the Dominican people declared independence in November 1821. According to World Bank, The Dominican Republic has the largest economy in the Central American and Caribbean region and is the seventh-largest economy in Latin America.
