Goa Population 2024

Goa is a state in western India, bounded by Arabian sea in the west, Maharashtra in the north, Karnataka to the south and west. Goa population in 2024 is estimated to be 1.59 million (15.9 Lakhs), By Aug 2023 Goa population is projected to be 15.75 Lakhs as per Unique Identification Aadhar India, updated 31, May 2023. As per NFHS 2019-2021 report, Total Fertility Rate of Goa State is 1.3 children per women compared to 1.7 in 2016. It is India's smallest state by area and the fourth smallest by population. Goa is a former Portuguese province, the Portuguese overseas territory existed for about 450 years until it was annexed by India in 1961. It has an area of 3,702 sq km and state capital is Panaji, and largest city is Vasco da Gama, second largest is Margao.

From 1960 to 1970 the census recorded the spike of 35% due to huge migration from Karnataka and Maharashtra, and decreasing around 10% every decade from 1970 to 2011. Last census recorded the decrease of 7%, from 2001 to 2011(15.21 to 8.23%).

Languages spoken in Goa

Konkani is the main language of Goa, widely spoken by 66% of the state population, but almost all Goan's speak and understand Konkani, followed by Marathi, Hindi with 10% each. Portuguese was the sole official language during Portuguese colonial rule.

Goa population in 2023 is estimated to be 1.58 million, and population in 2022 is estimated to be 1.57 million (15.7 Lakhs), population in 2021 is estimated to be 1.59 Million (15.9 Lakhs), According to UID, population in 2020 is estimated to be 1.58 Million (15.8 Lakhs).


Income Distribution

Goa is a tourist state and has the highest GDP per capita among all Indian states, visited by large numbers of foreigners and domestic tourists every year for its white sand beaches, nightlife and for Portuguese churches. Baga, Calangute, Palolem, Anjuna and Candolim are the popular beaches of Goa.
