New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, located about 2,000 kilometres east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and 1,000 kilometres south of the islands of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Tonga. New Zealand consists of two main islands, North and the South and number of small islands, Its a long and narrow 1,600 kilometres along its north-north-east axis with width of 400 kilometres and around 15,000 km of coastline. New Zealand was a part of the Colony of New South Wales of Australia until became Colony of New Zealand in 1841. New Zealand population in 2024 is estimated to be 5.54 million, covers country area of 268,021 sq km (103,483 sq mi), ranks seventy-fifth country by area and the one-hundred-twenty-first most populous country in the world. New Zealand's capital is Wellington, its most populous city is Auckland and popular cities are Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Lower Hutt, Dunedin, Palmerston North, Napier and Porirua. Country code is NZL, Life expectancy of New Zealand is 80.36 years for male and 83.52 years for female. New Zealand is the English speaking country, most common language, spoken by 95.4 percent, de facto official language. In 1987, Māori language of the indigenous Māori people was made the first de jure official language in New Zealand.
