Most Dangerous Cities in Maryland 2024

Maryland is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, early settlements and population clusters around rivers and other waterways that empty into the Chesapeake Bay. Crime in Maryland generally concentrated in areas high in poverty. Crime as an outgrowth of society, remains a social problem of grave concern. There were 123,439 total crime incidents reported in 2020 compared to 145,815 in 2019, Violent crime decreased by 2022. The crime rate dropped by 15.35 percent in 2020 when compared to 2019. The Violent crime group consists of murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. The composition of the property crime group is breaking or entering, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft. Property crime dipped 16.58 percent. Violent crimes involve the element of personal confrontation between the perpetrator and the victim. These offenses are considered more serious than property crimes. Ocean City is the top crime city in Maryland by 2024.

These Violent offenses accounted for 20.22 percent of the total crime cases in 2020, compared to 19.04 percent in 2019. The property crime cases reported during 2020 was more than 3.94 times greater than the total of violent crimes cases. property crimes made up 79.78 percent of the total crime cases in 2020, compared to 80.96 percent in 2019. In 2020, The crime Rate for Maryland was 2,038.36 victims for every 100,000 of population, compared to the 2019 rate of 2,411.89. The 2020 Crime Rate for the Violent Crime was 412.23 victims per 100,000 inhabitants, compared with the 2019 rate of 459.30 with the drop of 10.25 percent.

Murder Statistics in Maryland

In 2020, in this period a total of 573 murders were reported compared to 543 in 2019. Baltimore City recorded with highest murders in the State with 334 in 2020, compared to 348 in 2019, 309 in 2018, 342 in 2017 and 318 in 2016. Prince George's County recorded the second highest with 93 in 2020, 75 in 2019 and 61 in 2018. The victims are 83% are Blacks, 16.93% are Whites, Out of these 50.43% are aged 30 and over, 28.70% are between 22 and 29, 15.48% are between 18 and 21, and 5.22% are below 18 years of age. The weapons involved in murder are, 81% are Firearms, 5.22% are Knifes, and 3.52% are personal weapon.

Baltimore

It is the ninth most dangerous cities in Maryland in 2022, Violent crime occur at the rate of about 47.47 per 1000 residents. The most dangerous neighbourhoods in Baltimore are West Baltimore, Cherry Hill, Brooklyn-Curtis Bay, Fairfield Area, Greenmount East, Madison-Eastend, Pulaski, Greater Rosemont, Grove Park and Orangeville. Baltimore recorded 334 Homicides, 324 Rape cases, and in the crime against property there were 11,319 Larceny, 3,122 Motor vehicle theft, 3,418 Robbery and 62.61 Burglary. Baltimore crime rate decreased from 62.61 per 1,000 residents in 2019 to 47.47 in 2020.

Frederick
