According to National Statistics Board, Romania has lost 1.1 million people in the last eleven years, 9.8 million were female, accounting for 51.5 percent, the INS said on Friday, and 52.2 percent(9.941 million) of the population lives in urban areas. Capital of Romania is Bucharest and other popular cities are Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Iași, Constanța, Craiova, Brașov, Galați and Ploiești. Romania population is declining continuously from 23 million in 1988 to 19.1 million in 2021, it continues to be an emigration country, the phenomenon of emigration being the second biggest cause of the usually resident population decline. The net international migration during 2020 was negative, with almost 29 thousand more emigrants than immigrants.
