Jamaica is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea, located 146 miles long and varies from 22 to 51 miles wide. It is situated some 100 miles west of Haiti, 90 miles south of Cuba, and 390 miles northeast of the nearest point on the mainland, Cape Gracias a Dios, on the Caribbean coast of Central America.Indies. Jamaica country code is JAM, Originally inhabited by the indigenous Taíno tribe referred island as Xaymaca, In 1494, the island was under the Spanish rule following the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Indigenous people were killed, after that Spanish brought large number of African slaves to Jamaica as laborers. The island was controlled by Spain until 1655, when England conquered it, renamed to Jamaica. 36,000 Indians were brought as indentured laborers between 1845 to 1917 for sugarcane farming, in few years Jamaica became a leading sugar exporter as economy dependent. The island achieved independence from UK on 1962. Jamaica ranks fifth most dangerous countries in the world. Kingston, Montego Bay and Spanish Town are the top dangerous cities in the world.

Jamaica population in 1960 is 1,628,524, by 1970 the population is increased by 247,113 totaling to 1,875,637, by 1980 the population is increased to 2,162,839, and by 1990 the total increase of 2,419,901 in 30 years from 1960 to 1990 resulting to 2,419,901. From 1990 to 2000, population increased to 2,654,698, and from 2000 to 2010 the population of Jamaica increase by 155,766 with a change of 5.87 percent and increase of population from 2010 to 2020 by 150,697 with a change of 5.36 percent and make up to 2,961,161. Jamaica population in 2023 is estimated to be 3 million, population in 2022 is estimated to be 2.98 million, Population of Jamaica in 2021 is estimated 2.97 million.

Jamaica is divided into three counties namely, Cornwall, Middlesex and Surrey. These are further subdivided into 14 parishes: Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James, Trelawny, St. Ann, St. Mary, Portland and St. Thomas.
