Maine was admitted to the Union as the 23rd state on March 15, 1820. Maine percapita is Augusta and Portland is the most populous city. Maine has 3,478 miles of coastline and is popular for lobster production and single largest producer of blueberries in the US. Maine's earliest inhabitants were descendants of Ice Age hunters.
