Springfield is the city in Massachusetts State of United States, near confluence with the western Westfield River, the eastern Chicopee River, and the eastern Mill River, lies 24 miles on the north of Hartford, the capital of Connecticut. Springfield, MA population in 2024 is estimated to be 157,597, covers city area of 33.08 sq mi (85.68 sq km), ranks third largest city in Massachusetts State behind Boston and Worcester city, one-hundred-sixty-eighth city in the United States. Springfield is on the eastern bank of the Connecticut River, surrounded by mountains, bluffs, and rolling hills, was founded in 1636 during the American Revolution, George Washington designated it as the site of the Springfield Armory for its central location.
