Maldives is an archipelagic country in the Indian subcontinent of Asia, located in the Indian Ocean, lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India. Maldives means garland island, may also derive from Sanskrit mālā means garland and dvīpa means island. Maldives population in 2024 is estimated to be 591,358, covers country area of 300 sq km (120 sq mi), ranks one-hundred-eighty-sixth country by area and the one-hundred-seventieth most populous country in the world. From 1990 to 2000, population increased to 279,396, and from 2000 to 2010 the population of Maldives increase by 86,334 with a change of 30.90 percent and increase of population from 2010 to 2020 by 174,812 with a change of 47.80 percent and make up to 540,542.
